New detection method for high pressure sewage piping
The past plastic piping was located by pig detectors. These systems, due to their inherent weaknesses have practically disappeared from the market.
In the digital world of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), it is possible to make up to date and clearly arranged documentation of all pipeline locations. Initially all supply and disposal lines have to be read into the system locally. Piping that has no aboveground fittings must be located. This is a problem where plastic piping is employed in water and sewage systems. The use of electrical or pulsed detection often leads to inexact results.
Wire probe with parachute
A new method has been developed with Steinbacher-CONSULT. The probe apparatus is installed in a pressure resistant fitting near the pumpwork. The wire probe is fed through this installation into the pipe-work, where the parachute opens and pulls the special wire in the flow direction along the pipe. When the pressure is too great or after a pre-determined time, the probe emits a signal and the parachute collapses. The release mechanism is designed to prevent detachment or wedging.
