Cut of the spate in Eberfing
The Rural District the Weilheim area of responsibility was the first to receive a low pressure sewage disposal system. From the point of view of sewage technology Eberfing is not yet centrally connected. The present system of household settlement systems and very inefficiently functioning cess-pits, together with a water utility programme thats being run down. For these reasons Steinbacher-CONSULT planned a central Disposal plant that protects the ground water, the Angerbach river and other water sources. The partially high ground water levels, topographically difficult terrain and the widespread structures of the villages Ober- and Untereberfing and Gandershofen made the use of a low pressure drainage system as the most economical and best possible solution. As a result of the planned measures the 1150 or so inhabitants of Eberfing now have connection possibilities onto the public sewage system.
Innovative Sewage System Solutions
An advantage of the solution chosen is that during the construction phase only limited damage was caused and also with low pressure systems a burial depth of only 1.2 1.5 m below the surface is perfectly acceptable. A further feature is that utilisation of a pressurised system prevents the ingress of ground waters.

In this system the sewage from every household is pumped through a shaft into the sewage mains and then led into the central collecting pumping stations. These are situated on the northern district outskirts of Eberfing and the wastes received are then pumped over a 3 km pressurised connecting pipework to a mains junction near Marnbach.
The filtration of sewage from the 1150 inhabitants of the Eberfing district has been secured by the connection to the tank farms of the town of Weilheim a total of over 310 single pump shafts and the laying 8100 metres of pressurised pipework in the district were necessary. The total cost of this investment exceeded
4,3 Million Euros. The Bavarian Free State, represented by the WWWA Weilheim subsidised the Eberfing Water works with about 2,3 Million Euros. In the course of the installation over
2800 metres of defective piping were relaid.
