Sewage plants
Wastewater treatment, initially to enhance hygienic standards, was systematically started by towns and municipalities more than a hundred years ago by introducing sewers. Later on, further development with regard to mechanical, chemical and ultimately biological treatment was largely determined by regulations on the protection of water and biodiversity. In our day, however, continuing development is based on the optimization of existing and new plants with regard to operational aspects and by taking demographic developments into account.
Next to municipal wastewater treatment, the treatment of industrial wastewater, directly at the source, is of increasing importance as a way of reducing the cost of wastewater purification as far as possible. Many years of experience, especially in the operation of plants, help to develop long-term overall economic concepts for wastewater plants against the background of these complex issues.
